Comprehensibility

January 6, 2009

A fun party game:

Things that I understand, but they are false:

Newtonian mechanics

Most of what Sarah Palin says

Malthus’s argument for the imminent demise of vast numbers of people

Things that I don’t understand, but they are true:

Relativistic physics

The square root of two must be an irrational number

The Pythagorean theorem

Computer science

There is evil in the world

Audrey Tatou will never be my girlfriend

Add your own!

That I don’t understand Keynes is not an argument against Keynes. That I understand Sarah Palin is not an argument for Sarah Palin. Things can be comprehensible but false, or incomprehensible but true.

The grammar of the lists was really hard to get right in this post!
